- The German bike brand, better known for its enduro and downhill bikes, is going lightweight
- This is the third version, of YT’s Izzo – with the least amount of rear-suspension travel.
- And it is designed to be a light and agile trail bike. Capable of climbing steep inclines, with ease.
YT isn’t the first brand that comes to mind for lightweight downcountry bikes, but that all changes with its new Izzo Uncaged 7.
The German company’s latest product evolution is the third version
of Izzo. It also has the least travel and lightest weight.
YT’s product people initially launched the Izzo as a 140mm bike, before trimming it to 130mm for 2021. The Izzo Uncaged 7 now reduces that to 120mm – front and rear.
Short on suspension - not on ability
With RockShox SID Ultimate and SIDLuxe suspension components, the Izzo Uncaged 7 unquestionably qualifies as a downcounty bike. And it has the geometry numbers, to match.
Reach on the size large is a roomy 475mm, while geometry adjustment allows for a 66.9- or 66.5-degree head angle. Not the slackest 120mm dual-suspension frame, but certainly not a traditional XC bike – by any imagination.
Electronic gears and fast-rolling tyres
Build spec for the latest Izzo sees a SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS drivetrain and a gripshift lockout function for the rear suspension.
Ultralight G2 Ultimate 4-piston brakes ensure confident downhill riding. Rotors are adequate instead of oversized, with a 180mm CenterLine X up front and 160mm rotor at the rear.
YT has also equipped all the new Izzos with wireless AXS dropper posts, which correspond in length to specific frame sizes.
So how little does this YT downcountry bike weigh? The claim is 11.4kg (25.1lbs). Laser Yellow is the only colour and global availability will be limited to 300 bikes.
