Laces have made a significant comeback in the premium cycling shoe market.

Although Boa-dials are the most advanced way of fastening shoes, the simplicity of laces is inarguable.

Light. Simple. And easy to replace. Laces might not offer the on-the-fly adjustability of tension dials such as the Boa system, but they are proven. And many riders find it less of a hassle, to get that ideal shoe fit, with laces.

More riders, are going back to lace-ups

Specialized is the latest cycling brand to expand its lace-up offering, recognizing demand from riders who want all the technologies of a premium cycling shoe, with a more traditional fastening mechanism.

The American company has shown a new version of its S-Works 7 shoe, with laces. Specialized will market both the Boa-dial and lace-up versions of its S-Works 7.

The new lace-ups are structurally similar to the Boa-dial S-Works 7, using the stiffest carbon-fibre sole Specialized produces, to deliver excellent power transfer.

They are a little comfier - too

There is good news regarding the new lace-up version for riders who find the Boa-dial S-Works 7 a touch too tight. With eyelets replacing the Boa mounts on its upper, Specialized claim the S-Works 7 lace should also be a bit comfier for riders with wide feet.

Claimed weight per shoe is a mere 236g, and with a breathable fabric upper, these lace-up cycling shoes will keep you comfy regardless of season.

You can have the S-Works 7 lace-ups in white for a classic road riding look. But if you suffer from stain OCD, Specialized also offers the new S-Works 7 lace-up in vivid coral and a low-maintenance black colourway.
