  • One team will be having its riders suffering in style at the Hell of the North.
  • French cycling brand, LOOK, created one of the most memorable pro team jerseys in the 1980s.
  • And they have allowed it to be used again, for Paris-Roubaix.

Cobblestoned streets are part of romantic European village and city life. But beyond the old-world charm, cobbles are a brutal reality in professional road cycling.

There is no easy way of riding a carbon-fibre road bike, rolling carbon-fibre wheels, across cobbles.

For decades, riders have been humbled by the pave of northern France during the Paris-Roubaix.

A tough day on the bike

Known respectfully as the Hell of the North, this is the most prestigious single-day race in cycling.

It covers 259km, and although only 55km of the route is cobbled pave, it remains a jarring reality for the pro peloton.

There are even committees dedicated to preserving the route’s pave. They care for it and ensure that these cobbled sections of the Paris-Roubaix remain untamed.

Looking good - and riding hard

After being cancelled last year, for pandemic reasons, the Paris-Roubaix returns this weekend.

Many pro riders avoid the Paris-Roubaix, for risk of injury. But the riders in Team Delko, will be rolling at the race in spectacularly retro LOOK outfits. The French brand has allowed Team Delko to revive its 1985 team jersey with the iconic Mondrian logo.

With its geometric block pattern, LOOK’s red, yellow and blue jersey is one of the most cherished in all of pro cycling. And the Team Delko riders will be following in the legacy of road cyclings greatest.

Great memories from three decades ago

The 1985 season was a terrific one for LOOK. Its clipless pedal system was victorious in pro cycling’s two most regarded tours: the Giro D’Italia and Tour de France. Bernard Hinault’s wins established LOOK as a serious cycling component supplier.

Team Delko’s apparel partner, Marcello Bergamo, got permission from LOOK to recreate the classic 1985 season jersey for Paris-Roubaix.

It is also producing 50 jerseys and bibs for customers – and each one is sure to become a future classic, in any cycling collection.
