For non-riders, the most iconic jersey in cycling is yellow. The maillot jaune, worn by the Tour de France leader and eventual winner.

But for riders, there is a cycling jersey that has even more cachet. It is white and adorned with horizontal rainbow stripes - the jersey worn by a UCI World Champion. And South Africa has won several of these, mostly by Greg Minnaar.

The 2022 UCI World Championships are scheduled for this weekend in the Alpine town of Les Gets, France.
