- Want some great custom designs for your Specialized cycling shoes?
- Former pro surfer and shoe artist, Kyle Davenport, is the creative force behind this season’s custom look
- Shoes signify fashion sense and can transform your entire cycling kit
Custom colours bring expression and a sense of ownership to bikes and cycling gear.
Riders love colour matching their apparel to a core frame colour. And as in general fashion, so also in cycling: shoes make or break your look.
Handske is best known for its gloves, but the brand's latest project is a range of custom cycling shoe designs. Using a broad range of Specialized road and mountain bike shoes as its foundation, Handske commissioned artist Kyle Davenport, to create intricately detailed and vividly distinguished shoes.
Looking good - everywhere
Kyle has created three core designs, which are applied to your road or mountain bike shoes. The designs are bold and sure to attract attention.
With any cycling shoe artwork, it is worth remaindering that the design will have both static and dynamic properties.
Shoes must look good at standstill, when you are ordering that flat white in the local coffee shop, but also when spinning around, helping to power that ideal cadence.
You can go custom - but be nice
Handske is also offering a deep customization option, where any client can be guided in a manner that best interprets their idea. Much like tattooing.
Mindful of the balance between free expression and offence, Handske will not paint radical slogans or offensive designs as part of its custom cycling shoe programme.
Kyle paints each shoe by hand and uses Angelus paint, Molotow markets and an LK topcoat sealer to ensure design integrity.
Riders can either send in their own shoes or use a supply of Specialized kicks, supplied to Handske.
