  • Like cycling and having a swing? Why not combine the two?
  • Side Street Golf has a new golf bag, that is all about ride comfort.
  • And as experienced golfers know, your round can be made better or worse, depending on bag choice.

They say cycling is the new golf. And in South Africa, where significant golf assets also own cycling shops, it’s not a statement without merit.

But what if you are both: a keen rider and golfer? In that case, you can now combine both activities with the latest kit from Side Street Golf.

In theory, the idea of cycling to your local golf club sounds good, but what about that ungainly golf bag? Way too heavy to ride with and uncomfortable to carry on a bike, right? Not anymore.

A smaller golf bag – without sacrificing functionality

Side Street Golf is all about making the sport more accessible, and its Back9 is evidence of that design philosophy.

Industrial designers and fabric specialists have shrunk the traditionally bulky golf bag into a size and configuration that makes it rideable.

The Back9 is only 840mm tall and 305mm wide. That size makes it an easy carry, without creating discomfort to your pedal stroke or shoulder strain when you are on the bike.

Borrowing a proven idea from cycling jersey and short manufacturers, Side Street Golf uses silicone grippers on the Back9’s shoulder straps. These prevent annoying strap movement and slippage during a ride.

It is much lighter than a normal golf bag

Bike messengers and adventure riders know that any weight on your back can add pressure and trigger muscle pain. To alleviate this, the Back9 has a wedge-shaped lumbar support pad. And at only 2.49kg (unladen), this cycling-friendly golf bag is light, too.

The Back9 has a capacity for 14 clubs. There’s a grab handle for easy carrying between bike and the clubhouse, while a built-in stand keeps it upright when you are on the tee.

Side Street Golf’s Back9 features eight accessory pockets for all your golfing titbits and cycling snacks.
