  • Few things test bicycle care products, quite like a multi-day stage race.
  • Squirt is a proudly local lubrication and bicycle cleaning product innovator with nearly two decades of formulation experience.
  • With the Cape Epic its most notable event, the global Epic Series will now feature Squirt cycling products and support.

Bicycle parts are expensive and degrade rapidly when not correctly maintained.

Dust and mud act as abrasive agents on mountain bike drivetrains and suspension stanchions. And with drivetrain prices at an all-time high, riders want to get more life from their components.

The best way to keep your drivetrain components lasting longer is to practise a diligent cleaning and lubricating routine.

Tough local conditions create a durable lube

Squirt is a chain lube developed by a group of enthusiastic South African mountain bikers in the early 2000s – and now available in 42 countries. The Squirt lube bottles have had an official presence at the Wines2Whales since 2010.

The brand’s international partnership with events started in 2018 at the Swiss Epic. As the official bicycle care partner of the Epic Series, Squirt will now support various global events on different continents.

Spain’s Andorra MTB Classic-Pyrenees and the Croatian 4Islands race will expose Squirt’s product team to new insights regarding the wear of drivetrain components in different environments. The team will also be supporting Australia’s three best-known mountain bike races: Reef to Reef, Cape to Cape, and Port to Port.

Developing better product – by being at events

Working as a bicycle cleaning and care partner at mountain bike events has triggered significant product innovation for Squirt.

Danie van Wyk is Squirt’s director of cycling products. "Our chain lube eco box allows cyclists to bring their empty Squirt chain lube applicator bottles to local bike shops and have them refilled, rather than throwing away the plastic bottle."

Riders at Epic Series events will benefit from bike washes using Squirt’s biodegradable products. There will also be pre- and mid-stage lubrication stations.
