Few brands have done as much for African cycling, as Qhubeka.

Founded back in 2005, Qhubeka’s aim has always been to reduce the tyranny of distance and fatigue, afflicting the journey of so many rural scholars in South Africa.

Providing bicycles to communities and learners in need, Qhubeka has been able to radically reduce time spent getting to school and back home. The result is more time to learn and socialize with family, instead of walking to school – and back home.

But Qhubeka is not only associated with bicycle empowerment. Since 2011, it has also been the name of a professional cycling team with a fair portfolio of achievements, including that symbolic first stage win at 2015 Tour de France – on Mandela day.

Bringing African style to road riding

As the first professional cycling team from Africa, the Qhubeka riders are trailblazers. With the team’s main sponsor now being Swiss apparel specialist, Assos, Qhubeka is proud to project its African identity with some new gear.

Assos is renowned for making some of the most expensive, but comfortable, cycling garments. Its bibs are celebrated for their comfort, but the company’s latest and boldest design is a new Assos-Qhubeka jersey.

This Assos-Qhubeka riding jersey features a daring Ndebele artwork pattern, reinterpreted by Italian designer, Gianluca Tirassa. Original, fashionable and symbolic, the Assos-Qhubeka jersey will also serve a good cause.

For every five of these jerseys that are sold, Qhubeka will receive a bicycle for its rural empowering project.

Pricing for the Assos-Qhubeka jersey is premium, at R2500, but that price includes the donation component of R1000.

Reaction to the new Assos-Qhubeka jersey design has been overwhelmingly positive, with European cycling fans extolling the originality of its design.
