  • Specialized sponsored pro riders at the Tour de France, will be using new S-Works helmets.
  • The American brand has updated its Evade and Prevail helmets with significant ventilation gains.
  • Best of all, the new Evade 3 and Prevail 3 S-Works helmets are priced and available locally, to make your weekend ride even faster and more rewarding.

Marketing teams at the most influential cycling brands know that Tour de France month, is an excellent opportunity to twin new product launches.

True to this theme, Specialized has revealed updated versions of its best road cycling helmets. The brand’s Evade and Prevail helmets models now enter their third product iterations, with many improvements.

Specialized has its own wind tunnel, dramatically improving testing data and iterative design flow within its R&D team. Engineers, industrial designers and aerodynamicists spent a lot of time integrating rider feedback with test data and computation fluid dynamics. The result is two new helmets, the Evade 3 and Prevail 3.

Amazing real world aero

Evade has always been Specialized’s more aero road cycling helmet and one of the lightest in its premium S-Works speciation.

The Evade 3 S-Works features improved ventilation without increasing aerodynamic drag.

A rear diffuser section helps the Evade 3 S-Works save 1.5-watts on a ride, but it’s the 10% ventilation flow improvement that riders will most appreciate. A size medium Evade 3 S-Works weighs only 260g and is priced at R5900.

Even more flow...

For riders who seek even better ventilation on those sweltering climbs, there is the Prevail 3 S-Works.

Regarded as one of the best all-purpose high-performance cycling helmets, the Prevail 3 has seen engineers remove some of the helmet’s bridging material. To compensate for any loss of structural rigidity, the Prevail 3 S-Works has an 'air-cage' base structure.

Ventilation sees a dramatic 24.5% improvement over the Prevail 2, to deliver a helmet that should keep you cool in even the most severe heat conditions. Retail for the Prevail 3 S-Works, is R5500, and matches the Evade 3 S-Works reference weight, of 260g for a size medium.

Nano MIPS for safety

Specialized third-generation Evade and Prevail S-Works helmets use the innovative MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) inner-liner.

With ventilation being a priority, engineers have applied a nano version of MIPS, using thinner liner strips. Using less MIPS material inside the Evade 3 and Prevail 3 S-Works helmets avoids impacting ventilation without reducing crash energy abortion.
