Cyclists know that weight is important. But bicycle mechanics know that rotational weight, counts for even more.

Lightweighting components that spin on your bike make a much greater difference than reducing grams on a handlebar, frame, or fork. And the latest fantasy lightweighting component is from boutique cycling specialist, Ted Ciamillo.

The Gravitas Gen 13 cranks use advanced carbon-fibre construction and weigh only 279g. For a complete crankset. How light is that? About half the weight a series production carbon crankset, from one of cycling’s legacy suppliers.

Beyond its amazingly low weight, the Gravitas Gen 13 cranks feature some very clever design features. The spindle can be adapted to work with diverse bottom bracket standards and chainline offsets.

No mountain bike option - for now

These cranks are targeted at road and gravel riders and designed to work with a dual chainring. Ted Ciamillo is developing a version compatible with a single chainring, making it adaptable to mountain biking.

Riders interested in pedalling the world’s lightest crankset, can only choose between two crankarm lengths: 170mm or 172.5mm. There is a rider weight limited too, set at 110kg.

And then there is the pricing, which is significant. If you want to drop those crucial grams around your cranks, the Ted Ciamillo Gravitas Gen 13 crankset prices at R28 000.
