  • Camille and Marlon Jones from Atlanta in the U.S. are committed to losing weight together.
  • Changing their diet and daily activities has helped them lose weight and enhance their marriage.
  • They share their weight loss journey on Instagram, which helps keep them accountable to the process and inspire others at the same time.

They met in college and have been together for nine years and married for five. The couple from Atlanta, U.S. tells W24 that doing things together is what they do well. When the pandemic put the world to a halt, Camille and Marlon Jones decided to make much-needed changes in their lives.

They realised they were at their heaviest with Camille at 207lbs (over 93kg) and Marlon at 475lbs (about 215kg ) while in their mid-twenties.

The couple suffered from sleep apnea, which caused groggy mornings and daily back pain stemming from heavy stomach and weak core muscles. They would have a complete lack of energy throughout the day that caused them to repeat the same destructive cycle of eating at night.

They knew it was time to change after Camille was diagnosed with PCOS and Marlon with prediabetes.

"We knew that we needed to make an actual change for our health and wanted to stop selling ourselves short by making excuses," Camille tells W24.

She admits to having tried many yo-yo diets before, and they never worked.

"This time around, I wanted it to be different, so I knew our approach would have to be different from any of the crash diets we had done before. The transition was much easier this time around for us because we took it slowly. Our first step in creating better habits was to start cooking at home. This small change positioned us for more significant changes that followed. Once we became more consistent with eating at home and no longer tied down to the convenience of fast food, we started to incorporate exercise," she explains.

When speaking to W24, Camille had lost over 45lbs (about 20 kg), while Marlon had lost over 175lbs (around 80 kg). The two are nearing their goal weight. On their Instagram bio, they have recently shared that they have lost over 235lbs.

"I remember when I was at my heaviest, I always felt uncomfortable in my clothes, so now it feels better to walk around feeling good about yourself confidently. We've also gained new interests such as running and biking. Our favourite activity was binge-watching our favourite shows on the couch before our weight loss. Now, it feels so much better-doing things together that keep us outdoors with fresh air and keeps us active," she says.

Their marriage has been enhanced with and their greatest lesson has been the power of support, communication, and alignment. Supporting one another on this journey has allowed them to understand how they want to be supported individually.

Marlon says, "We came to this understanding by communicating and identifying the things that make us happiest and the things that deter from that. Once we were each able to align on our goals and how we wanted to approach them, we were able to attack them as a unit, which made everything so much easier."

A significant benefit of losing weight has been feeling better. "I know the saying is 'when you look better, you feel better,' but when referencing weight loss, your body feels better! We both have more energy, no consistent feeling of bloat, better sleep, clearer skin, and so much more," he adds.

On Instagram, CMgetFit, has inspired others to make necessary changes in their lives.

"When we started documenting our journey, it began purely as a method to hold ourselves accountable and be involved with other like-minded people that dealt with some of our similar challenges. We knew that if we had a social media account where we shared our experiences with our friends and family, it would help to add a layer of support. We never expected our journey to reach or inspire so many others. That has been the greatest part of sharing our journey, helping and teaching others," Camille says.

They have received positive feedback from it, encouraging them to keep going.

"One of our followers purchased our cookbook, Eat Better Vol 1 and she told us that she had been watching our journey since the start of 2021. She and her husband lost over 50lbs (almost 23kg) while following us and using the tips and recipes we posted on our Instagram. She told me that our profile changed her life, which deeply touched my soul," Camille explains.

Marlon says to those trying to lose weight that they should not give up. "Understand that your weight loss goal, just like life, is a marathon and not a sprint. As long as you take that first step and start the race, you're one step closer to reaching the finish line. It may not come as fast as you'd like, but with every change you make, you're one step closer to victory. Just focus on that next step, not the finish line," he says.
