High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, is a major cause of premature death worldwide, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

It's estimated that, globally, nearly 1.3 billion people are living with hypertension. In South Africa, more than one in three adults live with the condition. It is responsible for one in every two strokes, and two in every five heart attacks, warns the SA Heart and Stroke Foundation.
