Are you ready for this year's Soweto Fashion Week?

The Soweto Fashion Week is not just a clothing spectacle for fashion admirers, it is also an opportunity for young designers to gain exposure and for veteran designers to cement their status.

This year’s show will host 12 designers who will be given exposure to entice and charm the national and international fashion audience, as well as hone their own skills.

The event was launched in 2011 and although it doesn’t complete a full week, we can only hope that in the coming years the days will grow and a longer list of designers will be included.

The shows will take place from November 21- November 23 in Kliptown at the Mandela Sisulu Square ( Soweto Hotel).

Jackie Phamotse, communications and marketing manager for the event, said she has high expectations for this year’s fashion week and has noticed that the brand is growing and gaining confidence as people are beginning to see its importance.

Stephen Manzini, entrepreneur and organiser of the event, acknowledges how difficult is it to make a name for oneself in South Africa’s fashion industry especially for designers who lack adequate resources and have to rely on their talent and passion.

For this year's event, SFW has partnered with Darling Hair Extensions. This should give more exposure to designers and the partnership is a way of embracing African fashion in both garments and hair.  Dealing is actually the leading manufacturer and distributor of hair extensions and I imagine it's helped a lot of women look good and express their unique style.

So at this year's SFW you better look forward to an exhibition of exciting hairstyles and unique clothing designs.
