The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts (Piatkus)
Before I start the review I have to admit that I am a big Nora Roberts fan - especially when it’s a series. After I’ve read a book I don’t like to think that it’s the end of it all, that just like that the character’s story is over.
I like to think that somehow their lives continue and a series of books - if only for a while - lets me see how their stories unfold. Roberts has the ability of drawing you in and making you an active participant in the story, so much so that in the end it’s like you’re saying goodbye to real friends.
In the last instalment of the Inn Boonsboro trilogy she doesn’t disappoint.
Ryder Montgomery, the youngest of the clan is the strong, silent type and works with his hands. What could be sexier than that? He’s the type of man that every women wishes she could uncover just to see what lies behind that tough exterior.
Enter Hope Beaumont, former beauty queen and hotel manager of a plush hotel in Washington D.C. She leaves the city after a romance gone bad and is now the inn keeper of the Montgomery family inn.
Hope fits right into small town life; she loves her job except for when it comes to interacting with Ryder… until they share a passionate New Year’s Eve kiss.
Followed by more steamy kisses and some meddling from Lizzy, the inn’s resident ghost, the sexual tension between them only heats up more, inevitably resulting in the embarking of a torrid love affair.
In the beginning it might just be physical but things soon change. Ryder starts to feel things for Hope that he’s never felt for anyone else and Hope sees beneath the hard exterior.
When Hope’s past makes an unwelcome appearance in town, leaving her vulnerable and hurt, Ryder takes it upon himself to drive into the city and lay down the law with her ex=employee.
But theirs is not the only love story, in the sub plot we learn more about Lizzy and her deceased boyfriend Billy and their connection to Hope and Ryder.
I really enjoyed the book and the resounding theme that friendship, family and love makes living sweeter. I loved that we also revisit the other two couples and find out what’s going on in their lives.
In classic Nora Roberts style, she throws us a curveball towards the end and ties up the loose ends with an intricate connection. A perfect mixture of romance and mystery.
