
Priyanka Chopra Jonas says people couldn't "understand the concept of having a brown leading lady" when she first began acting in Hollywood.
The 38-year-old actress opened up on the discrimination she faced when she first went to Hollywood to pursue an acting career, as executives wouldn't hire her for leading parts because she wasn't white.
The British Style Council's Ambassador for Positive Change explained on The One Show that when she started looking for roles in Hollywood, she realised that she doesn't think people couldn't understand the concept of having a brown leading lady in mainstream entertainment.

Despite this, the actress, who is married to Nick Jonas, had a lot of faith in what she could do when she got on set and just wanted the opportunity to be on one.
As her faith would have it, she landed her first significant US television role when she took on a lead role in 'Quantico' between 2015 and 2018.

In her memoir titled, Unfinished, Priyanka shares that a film director once told her that she should get plastic surgery to enhance her looks, despite having won Miss World not long before then.
Priyanka's manager at the time agreed with the suggestion, leaving the actress feeling stunned.
Priyanka has nonetheless made a success of her career, having recently launched a vegan and eco-friendly hair care line named Anomaly. She spent a year and a half conceptualising the line with cosmetics conglomerate, Maesa.
