Two video game lovers decided to spice things up when naming their child by using a name of a character they love the most from one of their favourite video games.

However, it seems that even though this pair is happy with the name, the baby's grandmother completely freaked out when she heard that her grandbaby was going to be named after a video game character, reasoning that it is ridiculous to give this honour to a fictional character.

This story came to light when the father of the child asked Reddit for input. He wrote, "My wife (26F) and I (27M) are both big gamers. We met through playing a game together online, and it is important to us."

"We are expecting a baby boy in October, and we could not be happier! This will be the first child for all of us and the first grandchild/nibling on both sides of our families. So they're pretty excited to meet him too."

However, he explained that the problem is that "My wife and I were both greatly moved by the story of Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2."

Because of this, they considered Arthur Morgan as one of the best fictional characters of all time.

He added that he has been engaged in gaming for years now, but Arthur Morgan's story is the only one that has made him cry.

Her wife suggested that they make Arthur Morgan their son's first and second name.

He added, "Not only would we be paying tribute to our favourite character, but there is nothing wrong or 'weird' about the names, other than Arthur is a little old-fashioned now."

He continued, "But it is not as if we are naming him Sonic the Hedgehog or Donkey Kong."

Grandma has a name suggestion

His mother does not want this name for her grandbaby, but she may have a good reason. She had a brother who died when her children were young and was hoping his name would be carried on by one of her grandchildren.

While the expectant dad has no memory of this uncle, his mother has been pressuring them to name their son after him.

He says that "My older brother let slip to my mother that the name we chose was from a video game, and she completely flipped out."

She apparently then drove 30 minutes to their house "so she could bang on our door and berate us in person for honouring someone who does not exist over her flesh-and-blood sibling.."

He says that "there is nothing wrong with his name, either. It is pretty common. Think something like "Robert John."

The problem is that this is not the name the couple wished for their son. The baby's father admits that his mother might be missing her brother, but it does not mean that she should force things, as he says they are first and foremost the parents and have a right to name their son what they want.

He added that he and his wife have tried to talk to his mom to make her understand, but she told them straight that she would have nothing to do with their son and would never acknowledge him as family.
