You will be pleased to hear that Marine Sciences is now offered as a High School subject from Grades 10 to 12.
It is presented by the Two Oceans Education Foundation and adult learners are also able to enrol, as the classes are presented virtually in the afternoon.
The syllabus covers a vast range of topics, primarily focusing on the four strands of Marine Sciences, namely: Oceanography, Marine Biology, Ocean Ecology and Humans and the Ocean.
Oceanography, or the Science of the Ocean, covers everything from the seafloor, waves, tides and currents to the chemistry of water as well as how the ocean is connected to the weather.
Marine Biology studies the living organisms of the ocean, while Ecology investigates ecosystems such as kelp forests, rocky shores and sandy beaches.
Humans and the Ocean takes a look at how human activities and practices affect the ocean.

During your studies, you will learn the necessary skills to evaluate data in order to understand Marine Sciences content correctly.
You will also be taught the necessary science process skills needed to ultimately gain an understanding of science's role in society.
The course promises to not only expand your love for and interest in studying the ocean, but also to equip you for whichever path you may choose to follow next.
Although this course will lay a sound educational foundation, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are still prerequisite High School subjects, should you wish to further your Marine Sciences studies on the tertiary level.
