President Cyril Ramaphosa says that unemployment is one of the most significant challenges facing our youth today, as StatsSA reveals that the official unemployment rate among youth aged 15 to 34 stands at 46.3%.
This means that nearly one in two young people are unable to secure a job, so with this in mind Parent24 compiled a list of top opportunities that young people looking for jobs can apply for this year.

Teaching and general assistants for the Department of Education
The Department of Basic Education intends to provide over 287 000 unemployed youth aged 18 -35 jobs as student assistants and teacher assistants across South Africa.
The minimum requirement is that you must not currently be receiving a government grant or studying, and must be South African.
The closing date for this employment opportunity is 3 October 2021.

Traffic Student Programme
The Department of Transport and Public Works have partnered to recruit traffic students for further education and training certificates in Road Traffic Law Enforcement.
A training stipend of R 5 000.00 per month will be paid monthly for the 12 months of the training period. Requirements include being under 35 and physically fit, with a senior certificate or equivalent qualification and a valid driver's license.
Pregnant women will not be considered for physical fitness reasons. The application closing date is 8 October 2021. The selected candidates will start in January 2022.

Government Employment Training Programmes
Many government entities offer employment programmes and offer extensive information regarding government programmes and initiatives.
From police services to jobs in tourism and everything in between, young people are offered opportunities for advancement through skills programmes and learnerships.

SAYouth is a national network for all young people to access earning opportunities via the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention which brings together many partners to create a single network to allow young people to access a wider selection of opportunities.
sayouth.mobi is zero rated on the major providers, meaning it is free to use on mobile phones.
Young people are invited to apply for jobs, as well as volunteer, learnership, bursary and work experience opportunities in their area on the mobi-site.

Design Indaba emerging creatives programme
The applications for the emerging creatives programme for 2021/2021 have opened for 40 young architects, fashion designers, illustrators, furniture designers, jewellers, graphic designers, filmmakers and other multidisciplinary mavericks from South Africa to join the programme and showcase their work next year.
Submissions close on 30 October 2021, and winners will be announced by the end of 2021.
