Mick on 'Schumacher' Netflix film: Dad had to make sacrifices, and work for F1 success

Mick Schumacher says he is "relieved" the recently released Netflix documentary about his father's racing career has been received so warmly.

'Schumacher' was made with the full support of the seven-time former World Champion's family and includes private recordings provided by his wife, Corinna, and son and daughter, Mick and Gina-Marie.

They were all interviewed for the documentary, along with the 52-year-old's father, Rolf, and younger brother, Ralf.

'Happy and relieved'

Proving extremely popular in terms of downloads during the first week of its release and having received positive reviews, Mick Schumacher is pleased the response to the documentary has been so favourable.

The Haas F1 driver said during his media interviews ahead of the Russian Grand Prix at Sochi": It's great. I'm very happy and relieved that people really accepted the way we were intending it to. And for people to see the sacrifices he had to take to be able to achieve what he did, and that people now realise it hasn't been given to him and he had to work for it.

"I think that's very good and basically what the documentary is about: to show what a hard worker he is and what a fighter he is, and I'm very proud we were able to transmit that with this message."

Schumacher Jnr was speaking on the day it was confirmed he will be staying with the Haas team for a second season in 2022, alongside Nikita Mazepin.

That was never really in doubt, as the aim had always been for the two rookies to learn as much as possible in a challenging debut campaign with an undeveloped car before trying to work their way up the order in a more competitive Haas car next year.
