Tennis star Serena Williams will be honoured with the Fashion Icon Breakthrough Award at this year's FIT Gala, taking place on 13 April.
According to Fashion Network, the gala benefits the FIT Foundation, which helps nurture the next generation of FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) College students.
This year, the ceremony will be hosted by FIT alumni Nina Garcia, who is also the Elle editor-in-chief and a judge on Project Runway, as well as designer Michael Kors.
Serena will be awarded for an array of accomplishments, which include launching her own clothing line, investing in companies that value diversity, and collaborating with Signet Jewelers to create her own line of jewellery.
