The Renault 4 is well and truly an icon in the automotive landscape since it was first introduced in 1961.
With more than eight million units sold in over 100 countries spanning a period of more than 30 years, 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the 60's automotive pop icon.
The first versions of the five-door hatchback used a naturally aspirated 800cc engine that produced 19kW, though later models made as much as 44kW with bigger capacities.
Paying homage
Performance and speed were definitely not its strong point with a factory claimed top speed of 110km/h, and accelerated from 0-100km/h in 47.5-seconds.

Though from different generations, the Kwid is a somewhat modern rendition of the 4L where units sold is concerned. The Kwid might still be some way away from the huge amount of units sold, but if kept on the production line for a long time, it could reach six figures in the future.
