Granville Adams has died. He was 58 years old.

The actor, best known for his role as Zahir Arif in HBO's Oz, has lost his battle with cancer, Variety reports.

Oz showrunner and executive producer Tom Fontana shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, writing: "Goodnight, sweet prince/and flights of angels sing thee to they rest."

The news comes shortly after a GoFundMe page was created by Tom Fontana and Dean Winters, who starred alongside the actor in the hit series.

Adams starred in all six episodes of Oz, Deadline reports, and appeared in numerous other shows included NBC's Homicide: Life on the Streets and Fox's Empire. He also played the role of Scout in the 2011 film Magic City Memoirs.

The actor died with his wife by his side, an Instagram post shared by his family on his account said.

"Granny is now in peace and not suffering anymore. He fought till the end with a strength, beauty and grace like no other, putting his family before himself til the final moments. We are all so honored to have known Granville, who embodies the expression 'to know him is to love him' [sic]," the post said.
