If you haven't heard the name Burningforestboy yet, listen up.

The South African artist has been making waves in the hip hop scene with his innovative sound and honest vocals and, to no surprise, is getting noticed for it.

Burningforestboy recently made history as the first South African artist to feature on the cover of Spotify's global playlist, Fresh Finds. The playlist profiles the best music by independent artists and labels worldwide.

Typically, the artists that get this sort of coverage become some of the most prominent artists in the world.

Channel24 caught up with Burningforestboy to ask him 6 quick-fire questions about himself.

Congratulations on your history-making cover on Spotify. How does it feel?

I did an interview recently where "pioneer" felt like a title I was given too much credit for, but now it feels like I'm unintentionally filling those shoes up.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

Christopher Nolan Films, Anime and a lot of boredom.

Who are your musical icons?

Britney Spears, Aaliyah and Coolio.

Who are your top 3 ideal musicians to collaborate with, and why?

M.I.A, B.I.A. and Sia. Other than having the greatest song title ever, music with them would probably sound the way Japanese calligraphy looks. The idea of that will never be lost on me.

Describe your creative process when you write new music?

It changes with every song, but it comes down to finding a melody in a silence and leaning into it over and over again until it sounds like something you love.

What is your favourite and least favourite part about being a musician?

The music, the parties, and the people are my answers for both. I sing a lot about it in my latest release, STARSCREAM.
