Singer Lizzo delivered a Ted Talk on the origins of twerking, and it's a must-see.

The Juice hitmaker spoke about where the hip-shaking, booty-popping dance came from, its significance in black culture, and how she has used it to empower herself.

"Twerking is a deep, soulful, spiritual practice. It's hip-opening. It's empowering," she said in the 13-minute clip.

But Lizzo's talk wasn't just a fun chat about a popular dance style - it served as a history lesson and a salute to black culture and black females.

"With her characteristic energy, she (Lizzo) shares how twerking empowered her to love her own body - and explains why understanding its origins helps protect Black culture from erasure and misappropriation," the description of the Ted Talk reads on YouTube.

The star also addressed the bad rep twerking received once it went mainstream, saying that the dance "was misunderstood and taken out of context".

Of course, the talk would not be complete with a bit of twerking. The singer ended the chat by joining the audience ask she shook her booty.
