South Africa does not lack inspired wilderness areas. And even in the catalogue of amazing outdoor venues that you can visit locally, the Cederberg is revered.

Guarded by severe seasonal weather – searing summer heat and winter snow – the Cederberg isn’t a mild environment. It's not too close to Cape Town, either, which makes a day-trip riding experience, somewhere between exhausting and impossible.

But committing to that required Cederberg weekend away is never unrewarding.
