Schwalbe is a German company that make tyres for every conceivable cycling purpose: mountain biking, commuting, road riding and even adventure touring.

The company’s mountain bike offering has been bolstered by a redesign of two established tyre models.

For a rider seeking the balance between speed, traction and longevity the new Racing Ray and familiar Racing Ralph make a compelling combination. These tyres are targeted at both cross-country and long-distance marathon mountain bikers.

Schwalbe recommends using the Ray&Ralph in combination, with one on the front and the other trailing, at the rear.

As the name suggests, these tyres are targeted at those who like to line-up in the A-batch category, at any local mountain bike event. On the front, we tested the Racing Ray with a blue Addix stripe, while the Racing Ray on the rear used Schwalbe’s red Addix compound.

The Addix range of Schwalbe tyres come with a colour band around the circumference of the tyre, matched by a corresponding Addix colour badge on the sidewall.
