Mercedes-Benz launched its new 45 series in South Africa. Along with it, the automaker also debuted its range of 35 models on both the A-Class and CLA.
The line-up will comprise of the A35 4Matic, available in both the sedan and hatchback, as well as the CLA35 4Matic. The 4Matic, of course, refers to the all-wheel-drive system the cars are fitted with as standard, with Merc saying: "The A35 4Matic was developed at the same time as the A45 S 4Matic+, making it possible to inject the AMG DNA into every relevant detail."
The 35 series is powered by a 225kW/400Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that's mated to the AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. 0 - 100km/h takes 4.7 seconds for the hatchback, 4.8sec for the A Sedan, and 4.9sec for the CLA 35. Top speed for all three cars is limited to 250km/h.

The overview
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new range draws unmistakable influences from motor racing, adding characteristic AMG elements to the design idiom of the A-Class. Distinguishing features from the each car's respective range include the radiator grille with twin louvres, the AMG Line front apron with flics on the air intakes, a front splitter, and silver chrome trims on the louvres in the outer air intakes.
Regarding driving modes, the AMG Dynamic Select program has five options to choose from Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. The (optional) Adaptive Damping System allows the driver to choose between three different suspension control modes, ranging from comfort to a very sporty orientation.
To providing stopping power, the cars feature four-piston Monoblock fixed callipers and 350mm brake discs up front, and one-piston sliding callipers and 33mm brake discs at the rear. The exhaust system has an automatically controlled flap as standard, which adjusts the sound of the exhaust.
