The 400Z is the latest chapter added to Nissan's long line of Z chassis models that spans 50 years.

Perhaps its most interesting part is under the bonnet, where a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that produces 294kW and 475Nm finds its home and sends power exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission.

VR30DDTT is the codename for the engine, and if you're clued up about all things Nissan, it is part of the same family as the VR38DETT found in the R35 GT-R.

Staying true to the Z

With the 400Z, Nissan stays true to the model's lineage of continuing to use a manual transmission in each of its models. For those wondering if it's coming to South Africa, its availability remains unconfirmed at this point.

Many enthusiasts praised the way in which its exterior's sloped lines paid homage to previous models like the Z32 300ZX - which is also a twin-turbocharged offering.

At present, the GT-R remains Nissan sole performance car in the country, which is vastly out of reach for many petrol heads with a starting price tag of R2.5-million.

Ashwani Gupta, chief operating officer/chief performance officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, says: "For us at Nissan, the Z is a part of who we are and represents years of our commitment to customers. Through the Z, we bring the latest sports car design, performance and excitement to as many people as we can."
