• Drive-in movie theaters are seeing a resurgence around the world.

• The coronavirus has changed the way in which people enjoy forms of entertainment.

• Drive-in theaters offer a seemingly easier way to manage social distancing.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we live our lives. As human beings we are generally sociable and affectionate towards others, but that has come to an abrupt end.

We're required to wear masks and visors, and practice social distancing as a way to protect us from contracting the deadly virus. The hard lockdown required people to stay at home.

Slowly but surely different sectors have reopened, and one of those are cinemas. And while many people may not feel comfortable with watching a film in an enclosed cinema with other people, there's an alternative: drive-in cinemas.

For those younger folk who don't what a drive-in is, it's simply a large screen that people watch films on while sitting in their cars. Which means it is great for social distancing while enjoying a flick.

Which car should you be nestled in while watching a movie? Well, that's where we come in, here are our three dream cars to take to the drive-in.

1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class 560 Cabriolet  - The flagship Mercedes-Benz drop-top is obviously an over the top choice, but it's oh so luxurious.

Four individual seats are wrapped in leather with a heating function and massage (front seats only) makes it feel like you're in the VIP section.

The novel Airscarf features even wafts warm air down your neck, to keep things nice and toasty.

The Merc's Burmester sound system will make sure the audio is top notch, and don't forget you can drop the cabriolet's fabric roof and watch the film with a starry-eyed sky background.

2. Volkswagen Amarok -

Bakkies have become part of the national fabric and for many people their daily transportation. A particular favourite of ours in the double-cab segment is Volkswagen's Amarok.

The key to making a night at the drive-in memorable with a bakkie is to 'move' your seats to the load bay area. So pull in backwards, bring along a blow-up mattress, some cushions and you're good to go.

The Amarok's load area measures in at 1555mm long and 1620mm wide, so perfectly capable of fitting a mattress and all the snacks, because those are important too.

3. Honda BR-V

The multi-purpose vehicle is a seven-seater people mover with a myriad of cup holders, a sprightly 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine, and a 691-litre boot.

By simply folding the third row of seats the boot becomes a perfect location to watch the main event. Simply make sure you've reversed into your dedicated spot, pop a few pillows and blankets in the boot, and lift the lid to enjoy the movie.

I've been living with the BR-V for the past month and it's a car that does what it says on the tin.

The third row of seats even has cup holders, so how nifty is that to keep your drinks out the way while watching a movie?
