After more than 2000km in Toyota's flagship Land Cruiser Prado 2.8GD VX-L 4x4 AT, I was impressed how easily this luxurious people carrier handled the range of tasks we threw at it. But is its hefty price premium over the Fortuner (2.8 GD6 4x4 VX AT) worth it?

It's perhaps unfair to expect an SUV to behave as well on tar as it does on rough gravel roads, and to then expect that same vehicle to conquer exacting Grade 3 trails with undifferentiated aplomb may just be asking too much.

While several SUVs handle most of these varied tasks reasonably well, very few actually bring all three together and control each one with almost seamless adaptability and comfort. Yet the Prado meets this brief better than most.
