Keeping contact with your lenses

Contact lenses are small, fragile little things. How can you be sure you haven’t inverted the lens before popping it into your eye?

Take action:
Look closely at the lens: the contact lens should appear bowl-shaped – if it’s inside out, it’ll look more like a saucer. If you’re short-sighted (one reason many people wear contacts in the first place), use this test instead: place the contact lens in the crease of your hand, making sure the hand is dry; gently fold your hand; you should be able to see – and feel – that the edges of the lens point inwards, like a clam that’s closed; if the edges face outwards, a bit like an inverted World War I helmet, the contact lens is inside out.
