How do doctors diagnose osteoporosis?

This condition is diagnosed by measuring bone mineral density. This is done by using one of the following means: Conventional X-rays, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) – this test is the most frequently used method of diagnosing osteoporosis, quantitative computed tomography (QCT), measurement of the peripheral skeleton away from the spine, and quantitative ulstrasound.
