Guys, we need to talk about your FACE!

I was recently given a new skincare range to review. FACE for Him is a locally created brand aimed at men.

Skincare and beauty products for men are few and far between, and generally, I prefer a gender-neutral approach to products rather than buying something specifically formulated for men.

However, I do understand that not all men have a regular skincare regime yet, and many don't have a clue where to start. That's where FACE for Him enters the market.

When beauty blogger Camilla Berry first met hubby Stuart, his skincare routine consisted of only soap and water. It wasn't necessarily laziness but rather a lack of knowledge that had Stuart doing the bare minimum.

With her in-depth knowledge of skincare, Camilla quickly identified Stuart's skincare needs and got him onto a routine using various products suited to his skin. Within a few weeks, he was looking like a champ.

"Men are less likely to research skincare the way women do and want to be provided with an effective solution which requires minimal effort on their part," Stuart says of the lightbulb moment that saw the couple work together to create a skincare range for men made simple.

Camilla adds, "The men who do have basic skincare knowledge are those who have consulted with a dermatologist over the course of their lives, usually to treat serious skin conditions such as acne."

This is exactly how I got into my own skincare routine. After struggling with extreme cystic acne for most of my teens and early adulthood, my dermatologist suggested I start using Cetaphil face wash, face cream, and sunscreen, which I've religiously stuck to for most of my life. But I was keen to give something new a try.

Keeping it simple

What struck me most about the product was its simplicity - in both design and method.

The white packaging with bright strokes of colour and the brand's name printed in bold black capital letters perfectly encapsulates the aim of what FACE for Him is trying to do. Keep it easy; keep it simple.

The face wash, serum, intensive moisturiser, and moisturiser SPF50 are all marked with AM/PM indicating when to use which product.

I was given the face wash (AM+PM), intensive moisturiser (AM/PM), and SPF50 (AM) to try out. The products are formulated to complement each other and naturally advance from one to the next.

According to FACE for Him's website, the wash contains "prebiotics which ensures a healthy skin barrier". The moisturiser contains "ceramides, squalene and glutathione" to keep skin hydrated, and the SPF50 "protects against UVA, UVB, blue light and infrared light".

After years of using only Cetaphil, it took me a while to get used to the smells of FACE for Him's products. I've mostly used non-scented face wash, and all three of the FACE products have distinct fruity notes to them.

I started my routine with the face wash, moisturiser, and SPF in the mornings, but quickly dropped the moisturiser from my morning routine. I felt like the SPF had enough moisturiser to keep my skin hydrated during the day. I did use the moisturiser at night before bed after a face wash.

Of the three products I tried, I liked the SPF most. It wasn't oily, smelled great, and was light to apply. The moisturiser is also a great addition to every guy's skincare routine – especially in the evenings before bed. The wash might be the only product that I personally won't continue with due to my sensitive skin type.

Overall, I was really impressed with FACE for Him. It really does fill a huge gap in the market, and no guy can say that he's clueless about how to look after his skin – it's as easy as paint-by-numbers. This is about as simple as it gets, and it is fantastic quality. I'd say every guy over thirty must have a fixed skincare routine if they don't want to end up ageing before their time. The earlier you start, the better. But it's never too late.

This is also the ultimate Christmas gift idea if you want to impress your partner or family member. I happily give it my two thumbs up.
