DEATH is not something you can get over in a split second.
Successful DJ and entrepreneur Sibusiso Leope (38), best known as DJ Sbu, is still mourning the death of his father who passed away a few weeks ago. The Leadership 2020 author says, “The pain is there. It’s still new and I don’t know how to deal with it but I understand that I am not the first person to go through this, so I need to be strong, especially for my mother.”
HIS FATHER'S LEGACY
In a letter expressing his feelings, he wrote about his father being a leader, an icon in his community and a fearless man. DJ Sbu says he wants to continue his legacy. “He is my hero. I could have rebelled as a teenager if he was not in my life. He was proud of my success. He was a leader in his community. Although we had a good relationship with my father, I feel like I could have done more, spent more time with him and appreciated him more. We need to appreciate our parents a little bit more than we do. The only way to honour him is to continue with his legacy,” says DJ Sbu.
KEEPING IT REAL IN HIS NEW BOOK
Recently DJ Sbu announced the release of his second book titled, Billionaires Under Construction. He keeps it real in his new book and reveals what is in the mindset of an entrepreneur. “Not everyone on social media shares the hardships they went through before they were successful or opens up about how they made it. Most people have asked me why I made certain decisions in my life and this book answers those questions,” he says. Through his books, DJ Sbu wants to inspire and educate young people. “I didn't have any mentors on my journey to success. I had to make a lot of mistakes on my own because I had no one to advice or guide me. Now I feel that those who follow my work or are inspired by me, need to hear these things. It is my duty to share my secrets of success with them. My books are my way of mentoring the youth. I told myself that I am not going to wait until I am 50 years old to write a book because there are young, hungry and ambitious people out there who need this information right now,” he says.
One of the things that made DJ Sbu the success that he is today is consistency. He kept working at his goals even when he was discouraged. “Based on my experiences, I have learnt that consistency is key. A lot of people have great ideas but they give up when things get tough. If I gave up with my energy drink, Mofaya, I would not be where I am today,” he says, boasting that they are now selling millions of drinks a year.
