Gospel artist Dumi Mkokstad claims that there are people using his name to scam those who want to book him.
He says these people claim to be working with him and take money then vanish into thin air.
“They have received money from event organisers, churches et al, without my knowledge and are now unreachable!” he says.
His manager, Mxolisi Mhlongo, told Move! that Dumi has told him about this, but he could not comment on it as he was also unaware of the details.
“I think Dumi will be the best person to talk to. He told me about it, but he might have better information on it than I do,” he says.
Move! managed to get hold of Dumi and he sounded distraught about the incident.
He says he found out about the scam on Friday 6 March when a church called to confirm “his” booking for Saturday 7 March.
He says he knew nothing about the booking and was unavailable to perform for them. When Move! enquires about the scammers, Dumi admits he knows some of them.
“Some of them I have been working with in the past. Some I don’t know,” he admits.
Even though Dumi knows some of the alleged scammers, he won’t be taking any legal action. He says an agreement has been reached with those affected.
“I’ve addressed this with one of the scammers and they have committed to pay back within seven days,” he says.
