Media personality Relebogile Mabotja and her family was allegedly intimidated by a taxi association in Zandspruit, north of Joburg on Sunday afternoon.
Relebogile and her family were allegedly on their way to Mafikeng while driving a quantum minibus taxi when they were pulled over by the association personnel.
“I’m busy shaking because the taxi association has pulled me and my family over. We’re in a quantum trying to drive to Mafikeng. They forced us to pull over. They’re bullying us and swearing at us [sic],” she said in a video clip.
Relebogile says she felt harassed by the men but did not name the association she came into contact with.
“Taxi Association harassing my family and now! We are in Zandspruit.”
In a series of tweets, she related the events of their ordeal. “I was in the drivers seat!!! My family was NOT safe!!!! Your people threatened my family. This is completely unacceptable. I will NEVER pull over for people forcing me that are not law enforcement. You have ZERO jurisdiction over me. NEVER!!”
The Mabotjas were escorted by police out the situation. But, Relebogile was not satisfied with how they handle the matter.
“I assessed our situation & called the police. They failed dismally in managing the situation, but the reality is this: Police in this country are ill-equipped, under resourced, not properly trained for many emergency situations and they too are sadly are as afraid of these people as we are. That is the sad reality,” she said.
