Idols judge and media personality Unathi Nkayi recently shared why she and Bonginkosi “Zola” Dlamini never dated even though they liked each other.

The 41-year-old took to Instagram to repost DJ Cleo, who shared a snip of an interview with Zola about the making of Sana Lwami, a collab between Zola and Unathi.

Unathi said DJ Cleo has been a great friend to her for over two decades. “Waking up to THIS @djcleo1 THANK YOU so much. So, people don’t know we’ve been friends since 1997,” she wrote.

“We met at Rhodes where you’d frequently come and play. Then it was this song and YFM.”

She also took a moment to show her appreciation and give thanks to kwaito legend Zola for his big contribution to her career as a singer.

“As for uBonginkosi . . . I owe him my music career,” she said.

Unathi explained how she and Zola liked each other back in the day, but never actually dated because they were both too shy to make a move.  “People don’t understand how we never dated. He had a crush on me and I, him, but we were both too shy to do anything.”

She believes their crush was reason there was so much chemistry in Sana Lwami. “I guess that’s what speaks to our chemistry in the song and the video.”

She ended the post by saying she loves both DJ Cleo and Zola. “I love you both deeply.”
