Lagos – Nigerians have taken to Twitter to express their outrage after a video of a child being lynched and set ablaze emerged on social media.
Nigerians demanded the immediate prosecution of the killers of the 7-year-old boy in Lagos.
According to the Sahara Reporters, the short graphic video which showed the young boy being lynched and set ablaze was posted on social media on Wednesday.
The boy was reportedly caught while allegedly trying to "steal" people's phones and money at Orile-Iganmu, a small state in the overcrowded city of Lagos.
The video and pictures showed blood gushing from the boy's head, as his attackers meted mob justice on him.
After beating him up mercilessly, a tyre was forced through his head and he was burnt to death.
A The Premium Times report said the boy's hands were also cut off.
Social media users called for the prosecution of those who were behind the merciless attack.
Police had since opened an inquest into the alleged killing, BBC said, with the police spokesperson Dolapo Badmus, however, saying that they did not believe the incident happened in Lagos.
