The window to meet initial targets to vaccinate 1.2 million healthcare workers is closing quickly, despite optimism from government's chief scientific advisor on Covid-19 vaccines, writes Kyle Cowan.

Professor Barry Schoub, chairperson of the ministerial advisory committee on Covid-19 vaccines, believes that South Africa will meet its target of vaccinating a million healthcare workers by the end of April.

A News24 analysis shows the actual date of completing phase one of the vaccine rollout plan is, at current pace, more likely to occur in early August - assuming that enough doses of a vaccine are available.
