Many artists don’t sound as good live as they do on a studio album, but John Legend is not among them.
The R&B superstar visited our shores this week for his All Of Me tour.
Legend charmed Cape Town first, played in Joburg on Wednesday night, headed to Durban on Friday night and then returned to Jozi for two more gigs last night and tonight.
On Wednesday, Joburg’s Coca- Cola Dome came alive as a full house sang along to hits like Tonight (Best You Ever Had), Green Light and Ordinary People.
He took us on a little journey from his beginnings as Lauryn Hill’s piano player to Alicia Keys’ back-up, to the musician he is today.
Although security guards kept forcing people to sit down, many fans couldn’t help themselves and got up to groove along.
Legend performed most of his set on the piano, showing off the skills his grandmother had taught him.
The few times he stood and walked across the stage seemed awkward and unchoreographed.
But fans didn’t mind because he was a vision in his silver-grey tailored suit and black polka dot shirt.
Legend rounded off the show with his latest hit, All Of Me, from the recent album Love in the Future.
While some fans rushed to the front to get a closer look at the singer-songwriter, many couples held each other close under the dim lights. It was a performance that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
