An 18-year-old accused of masterminding his parents’ murder was granted R10?000 bail in the Standerton Magistrates Court.
The youth, Zahid Makda, appeared briefly today and the case was postponed to November 8, said the Mpumalanga police’s Captain Leonard Hlathi.
The boy’s parents, Mohammed (44) and Fatima (37), were bludgeoned to death at their home on August?29, allegedly by two men who were promised R250?000 for the murder.
After the crime the men, aged 20 and 22, fled in the couple’s car.
En route to Johannesburg, the car overturned killing the 22-year-old and critically injuring his accomplice.
Preliminary investigations determined that the motive for the crime was for the couple’s insurance policy money.
