Deputy Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Bheki Cele was greeted with loud cheers and ululation as he walked into the Vosloorus Civic Centre in Ekurhuleni today.
The crowd chanted “Bheki, Bheki” as the man who served as national police commissioner from 2009 to 2011 walked to the stage. Some shouted “bring back Bheki”.
Cele, along with Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele, African National Congress Ekurhuleni chairperson Mzwandile Masina, and Gauteng ANC Youth League chairperson Matome Chiloane, were in the area to talk about crime.
Vosloorus is where Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa was killed. He was shot dead while at the house of his singer and actress girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
Two people allegedly entered the house and demanded cellphones before fleeing.
Meyiwa was buried in Durban over the weekend. Thousands of supporters converged at the Moses Mabhida stadium to give him a hero’s send off.
