Bikers hit the road for Mandela Day

A group of 21 celebrity motorbike riders hit the road today to

spread the word about Mandela Day, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said.

The bikers, plus a support team, would take six days to travel from

Johannesburg to Cape Town, stopping along the way for community projects.

Actor Morgan Freeman was participating in the event, although he

was not riding a bike.

The bikers included actor Jack Devnarain, radio personality Jeremy

Mansfield, columnist Lehlohonolo Saint Seseli and Survivor SA contestant Hanna

Grobler.

Speaking at their send-off, foundation chief executive Achmat

Dangor said he believed the journey would “touch people everywhere”.

Devnarain said: “The great goal is to remind people that Mandela

Day is not just about 67 years of sacrifice and service, it is about living a

lifetime of sacrifice and service.”
