Call for comments on protector’s rules

The public is being asked to comment on rules dealing with public complaints to the Public Protector, her office said today.

“Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela has called on interested persons and formations from both public and private sectors to submit their written comments,” her spokesperson Oupa Segalwe said in a statement.

The rules were published in the Government Gazette yesterday. The deadline for comments is December 29.

“The rules seek to expedite the resolution of complaints by the public.”

This would be done through various measures like cooperating on aspects of investigations like subpoenas, search-and-seizures and alternative ways of resolving disputes.

The rules also outlined procedures for lodging complaints, resolving disputes and service standards expected.

The rules could be accessed at libraries countrywide or at Publicprotector.org.
