Car hijacked at pension pay out point

Two men were arrested after a vehicle was hijacked outside the

pension pay out point in uMsunduzi in KwaZulu-Natal.

Colonel Jay Naicker said: “When police arrived on the scene

security guards informed them that four men had hijacked a Ford Ranger LDV

outside the pension payout point.

“Security guards initially thought that the suspects were trying to

rob the pension payout and fired shots into the air.”

The four fled with the hijacked vehicle and police followed

them.

Naicker said: “As police were closing in on the men, the suspects

abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush.”

Two of the men boarded a minibus at a taxi rank. Police stopped the

vehicle and arrested the pair, who each had a 9mm pistol.

They would face charges of car-jacking and illegal possession of

firearms and ammunition.

Their two alleged accomplices were still at large.
