Cop robbed of service pistol, ID

An off-duty policeman was robbed of his pistol and police ID in Duduza, south-east of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said today.

“On Sunday around 7.50pm an off-duty policeman was travelling [in Duduza] with his vehicle when he realised he had a flat tyre,” Lieutenant Colonel Egen Moodley said.

“The 48-year old man pulled off the road and started to change the tyre when he was approached by three men.”

One of the men pointed a firearm at the policeman while the other two searched him. They took his pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, and a wallet with his police ID. They pushed the officer to the ground and fled.

Anyone with information about the crime could contact Captain HB Mhlungu on 082 822 7761 or 011 730 4733.
