Two Tshwane Metro Police officers were arrested for allegedly demanding money from a man whose car was impounded in Mamelodi, Gauteng police said today.
Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the two police officers were arrested last night.
“A complaint was laid by the owner of the vehicle that the two police officers demanded money for his vehicle to be released after it was impounded for being unroadworthy,” said Dlamini.
The vehicle had apparently not been registered as impounded when the money was demanded from the owner.
The two police officers, 25 and 37, were arrested for corruption and allegedly some of the money paid to them was also found.
The vehicle was returned to its owner.
The police officers were due to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrates Court on Friday.
