With soccer fever
gripping Mzansi, Father’s Day may kick off with the blast of a vuvuzela. If
you want to surprise dad before kickoff today, how about this South
American-inspired sauce for his steak?
» 1 tablespoon cooking or olive oil
» 1 medium onion, chopped
» 3 cloves garlic, chopped
» 2 teaspoons finely chopped red chilli
» 1 tin tomato purée
» 125ml beef stock
» 3 tablespoons red wine
» 30g dark chocolate
Heat the oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion,
garlic and chilli for a couple of minutes. Add the tomato purée, beef stock,
red wine and chocolate, and simmer for about 5 minutes or so.
Serve over steak cooked on the braai or grill. Keep
it simple by serving it with roast baby potatoes or chips. Extra tasty with a
big glass of dry red wine.
