A group of armed men robbed a bakkie transporting cash leaving Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport this morning.
“At around 5.45am this morning an unknown number of armed suspects ambushed a security van transporting cash from the airport,” Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said.
The gang used a white Mercedes-Benz to ram the bakkie from the road. They removed the canopy and took an undisclosed amount of cash before making their getaway in three cars: a white BMW X5 and Golf 6 GTI, and a black Ford ST. No shots were fired.
“Three security personnel were injured during the robbery and are receiving treatment at a local hospital,” he said.
Mofokeng appealed to anyone with information about the gang’s whereabouts to contact police.
