Jacob Zuma must face his problems

There are three things that cannot be hidden for long: the sun, the moon and the truth. These are the words of Buddha. President Jacob Zuma should be made to take responsibility for the allegations of corruption that have been thrown at him.

Having people protect him, whatever the cost, will mean he is seen not as one of our great leaders, but as a man who is afraid to take responsibility for his actions.

It might currently seem that Zuma’s soldiers are helping so they can be seen as being behind him, but the truth that can’t be hidden forever is that they are killing four birds with one stone: their dignity, President Zuma, the ANC and, most importantly, South Africa.

Indeed, when the number one citizen does not respect the institution that is the brainchild of his own organisation, who will respect it?

His actions should set an example and let it be known that the ANC really wants a clean and accountable government.

It is obvious that leaders in the ANC know where their bread is buttered, but the nation wants leaders who set an example.

So President Zuma, clean up your act first so that it is not ironic when you talk about accountability and a South Africa without corruption.

Running away from your problems is a marathon that no one can ever win.
